Emotionally Focused Therapy
Emotionally Focused Therapy has proven to be an effective approach to supporting couples who are needing some fine tuning in their relationship. This can be done by honing in on unhelpful communication patterns by enacting our core emotions and relaying our primary feelings to our partner to create emotional safety. This approach aims to re-establish a secure bond and improved intimacy with your partner.
Couples who have experienced a breakdown of trust can restore the commitment to the relationship by replacing negative patterns and shifting past responses to conflict by creating new opportunities to overcome an unsolvable dilemma in your relationship.
Mindfulness is not static, it’s a moment-to-moment state or awareness and consciousness. Mindfulness is best experienced when you leave self judgment at the door and it requires practice, practice and more practice because we are not inclined to be mindful.
It’s not uncommon for people to equate mindfulness with meditation and while meditating is an extremely powerful way to achieve improved mood and enhanced personal wellness, there are a variety of alternative mindfulness exercises that I can assist you with.
When people experience anxiety due to a fear, phobia or a traumatic memory, they often avoid anything that reminds them of it. Although avoidance provides temporary relief to unwanted feelings, the pattern of avoidant behaviour ultimately gives more power to the phobia or traumatic memory.
Exposure therapy is designed to gradually expose the individual to various aspects of that fear while increasing the persons confidence and window of tolerance to manage that fear. As you begin to gradually face your fears or phobias, you will begin to loosen the shackles that has been holding you hostage.
Exposure Therapy is a proven evidence - based practice.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, action-oriented therapy model that draws attention on a persons thinking, behaviour, and emotional responses. CBT is considered an “Evidence - Based Practice” (EBP) because it has been rigorously studied and proven effective for treating mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.
While in counselling the overarching goal of CBT treatment is to help the individual solve their difficulties by teaching them that it is possible to have control. It also enables the overcoming automatic belief system by challenging our irrational feelings/responses and modifying unhelpful thinking about the self, others, and the world. CBT is a practical self-help strategy that can help to improve your quality of life.
